Artist of the Month
Angela Farinelli at Stonewall
|
Paul Harris, The Independent - October 5, 2006
ArtsUnited is featuring paintings by local artist Angela Farinelli in a solo exhibit called “Expressions” which is running until the end of October at the Stonewall Library and Archives, 1717 N. Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. A Florida resident for the last 34 years Farinelli now lives in Oakland Park. Her interest in art started from an early age and continued at Palm Beach Community College where she completed her associate’s degree in Graphic Design.
She has been quoted as saying that “Now I enjoy painting the human figure among other variety of subjects. My work is versatile and appeals to both men and women, gay or straight.” Angela’s artwork has been on exhibit at the Oakland Park Art Festival, Blue Moon Lounge, Art Expressions Gallery, Gallery of The Unknown Artist in Hollywood, and many exhibits by ArtsUnited.
She uses acrylics, pencil and colored markers in her work. Some of her most popular paintings are of cowboys and cowgirls. Angela painted her first cowboy painting in 1987. What makes her cowboy paintings unique is that they have mystery to them, because their eyes are not shown, they are in shadow. Angela has been commissioned to paint more cowboys now than ever thanks to the movie, Brokeback Mountain. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
