ArtsUnited Features Painter Robert Versteeg in November
Robert Versteeg was born in the Netherlands. His career as an artist started with performance art when he was 17. He trained in ballet and modern dance, and moved to New York City in 1991 to further pursue his career. He developed into a choreographer, where he used the human body as a paintbrush to create moving displays.
In the mid-nineties he added fitness to his resume. He moved to Maine in 1999, and then to Florida in 2003. He is now one of the group fitness instructors at Main Street Gym, as well as other gyms in South Florida.
His father developed some painting recognition back in the Netherlands, throughout the nineties. When he died in 1999, Robert took up painting, initially mainly as an outlet to work through his emotions. However, when people started seeing Robert's artwork, they were immediately
impressed by the natural talent it displayed.
At first, he worked in watercolors, but relatively soon he moved over to oil. This has been his medium of choice ever since.
Even though he has only been painting for 7 years, there is already a clear development in his art. Initially the focus was on still life tableaux, mainly exhibiting flowers. Over time, he has transitioned into abstract work, exploring emotion through color and movement. He still has had no formal training.
Robert V. is available for commissioned assignments.
