ArtsUnited Features Photographer Kelvin Stansberry in Solo Exhibit
ArtsUnited will feature photography by Kelvin Stansberry in a solo exhibit at the Stonewall Library and Archives, 1717 N. Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, from September 5 through 30, 2006. The exhibit opens with a reception to meet the artist on Tuesday, September 5 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. The exhibit and reception are open and free to the public.

An accountant by trade, Kelvin Stansberry has been taking pictures for over 20 years. His love of photography began when his mother purchased his first SLR film camera as a teenage birthday gift. Kelvin's photographic roots are in landscapes, cityscapes, travel, gardens, and flowers. "I would describe myself as a shy artist. I began photographing people and events three years ago to try and break out of my shyness."

Stansberry's publication credits include a 2003 Winter Party pictorial in 411 Magazine, a single image in the International Library of Photography's Year 2000 multi-artist publication, "Symphony of Color," and a single image in Photographer's Forum's multi-artist publication, "Best Of Photography Annual 2000."

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to exhibit at the Stonewall Library and Archives. I have titled the Stonewall Exhibit From Boys Next Door to Bodybuilders. The Boy's Next Door depicted in this exhibit are friends who have graciously posed and consented to having their pictures displayed. The bodybuilding photos were shot at the preliminaries of the 2006 NPC Southern States Bodybuilding Competition held in Fort Lauderdale on July 14, 2006 at War Memorial Auditorium."

"Taken at face value, the bodybuilding photos are intended as a celebration of the male physique at its aesthetic best. My intent is to honor the hard work and sacrifice of these amazing athletes who have dedicated their lives to becoming living, breathing works of art. As such, the exhibit of the bodybuilding photos does not imply, nor does it aim to imply, or suggest anything regarding the sexual orientation of the athletes."

Kelvin's extensive photographic collection can be viewed online at http://imagesbykelvin.com. The online collection is primarily film photography, but that is slowly changing, as he now shoots digital exclusively. "I love the creative control that I get from shooting digitally. I control the entire process from image capture to finished print. It is kind of like directing a still movie one frame at a time."
