Schedule of Events ArtsUnited welcomes you to United and Proud and invites you to celebrate the contributions the gay and lesbian community makes to the arts. June is recognized as Gay Pride Month, because the Stonewall rebellion, a milestone in the gay rights movement in this country, took place June, 1969. This exhibit is an ArtsUnited "member' showcase" as only Artsunited members were invited to participate. Membership in ArtsUnited is open to anyone. All participating artists were invited to comment on what gay pride means to them. Those responses are posted next to the respective artist's works in the gallery. The Best of Show, Second Place, Third Place, and Judge's Recognition winners were selected by a panel of distinguished judges. You now have the opportunity to help select the "People's Choice" award. Use the ballot inside this program to cast your vote. ArtsUnited was founded to create equal opportuinties for artists in the gay and lesbian community in the arts. With this week's headlines about a Constitutional Amendment to ban same sex marriage, our mission has never been more important. We are grateful to the Broward County Commissioners and particularly the Libraries Division for supporting the gay and lesbian community in such a public way. Our exhibit will be seen by thousands of private citizens during the month of June. Perhaps we'll change some perceptions and a few hearts along the way. More information about artists can be found on the Artist's Table. Many of the artists are here tonight for you to meet. All ballots must be returned to Reception before 7:50 PM to be counted. Artwork maybe purchased this evening by check, cash, or credit card; however, the work must remain in the the gallery for the duration of the exhibit. See the volunteers at the reception table to purchase artwork. The exhibit will remain on display through June 29, 2006. ______________________________________________________
