ArtsUnited, a not-for-profit enterprise dedicated to the production of unknown, original creative works by gay men and women in theater, film, television, video, literature, dance, and visual mediums continues its current exhibition at the Broward County Main Library in Downtown Fort Lauderdale.
In honor of Gay and Lesbian Pride Month, "United & Proud," an exhibition showcasing local visual artists, will continue through June 29 at the Library, 100 S. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. The exhibit features twenty-two local visual artists, authors, performances, musicians, vocalists, poets and photographers that present a positive message about the gay and lesbian community.
A closing reception for the exhibit is scheduled for Monday, June 25 from 6-8pm to meet and greet the artists participating in the show.
Chuck Williams, ArtsUnited Board Chair stated, "This exposition is a response to the growing need to promote local artists that present a positive message about gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender in our community."
The exhibit is free and open to the public. ArtsUnited has invited public feedback by completing comment cards after viewing the exhibition.
ArtsUnited stated, "This feedback will help us in planning future exhibits, performances and programs. With each successful affair, we will feature and promote other works of art to the community at large throughout the year."
ArtsUnited is a non-profit organization founded in 1999 to provide gay and lesbian artists an interactive and supportive working environment and to help break down barriers that have prevented gays and lesbians from contributing fully and openly to the cultural, social, and economic success of South Florida. ArtsUnited organizes art exhibits in public places, sponsors author events, conducts educational seminars, maintains a network of artists, acts as a clearinghouse for employment opportunities, produces original plays, and holds art workshops.
