Eleven Bridges Mural Project Dedication
The City of Wilton Manors, the Friends of the Wilton Manors Library and ArtsUnited will unveil and dedicate "Window to the Imagination", the first in series of murals in Wilton
Manors, Florida, on Friday, February 29, 2008. The ceremony and reception will take place from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at the Richard C. Sullivan Public Library, 500 NE 26th Street in
Wilton Manors. The public is invited, and admission is free. Refreshments will be served.
The mural was created by local artist Mark Vose. Mr. Vose was commissioned to do the mural after being selected from over a dozen artists who applied for the project. Funding for the mural was provided by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Council, Friends of the Wilton Manors Library and ArtsUnited.
The mural on the exterior of the Richard C. Sullivan Public Library is the first in a series to be developed by ArtsUnited entitled "The Eleven Bridges Mural Project" referring to the eleven bridges that connect Wilton Manors to the surrounding communities. The site was selected to help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the library and its service to the community.
The Eleven Bridges Mural Project
ArtsUnited is facilitating the installation of a mural on the exterior wall of the Wilton Manors Library, 500 NE 26th Street, Wilton Manors, FL. It is our expectation that this will be the first of many mural installations throughout Wilton Manors, changing the artistic landscape of the city. The project will take a collaborative effort between ArtsUnited, the City of Wilton Manors government, the Wilton Manors Library.
The process will begin with a Call for Muralist in September, 2007. The competition will be open to individual artists as well as teams or organizations with mural experience. The Call will indicate a budget of $10,000 to cover the artist(s) time and materials, and will not pay for travel or lodging. The respondents will provide resumes, references, and examples of previous work which exemplify the artist’s style and imagery.
The applicants will be evaluated and scored by a selection committee representing the library, the City, the community, and ArtsUnited. At least 3 muralists will be selected to present their design proposals to the selection committee, and two semi-finalists designs will be displayed for public comment in November. The selected artist will be awarded the project by December 1, 2007 and will finalize their design with input from the jury. The winning design will be revealed at the 50 year anniversary celebration of the Richard C. Sullivan Public Library of Wilton Manors, on December 7. Mural installation will occur between December 15 and February 15, 2008. The completed mural will be unveiled at a public ceremony at the end of February 2008.
