This year's United & Proud Exhibit will be on display from June 1- 18, 2009 at Gallery Six, Broward County Main Library, 100 S. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. The opening reception will be on Wednesday, June 3rd from 6 to 8 PM. Admission is free and open to the public.
This is an ArtsUnited members only exhibition, and Membership forms and United and Proud Applications are available by clicking the DownLoad Link here or at the left. Entries are not limited to a theme as the exhibition is designed to showcase local gay and lesbian artists to the general public; but we encourage work that expresses the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and Gay Pride Celebrations. The exhibit is not juried, but space is limited and ArtsUnited reserves the right to reject work because of space limitations. Work that has been shown before in an ArtsUnited exhibit will be rejected. Works will be judged for ribbons, and prizes will be awarded for Best of Show, People's Choice and Best of Class for Photography, Painting, 3-D/Mixed Media, and Drawing/Print. This year's judge is Jane Hart, Curator of Exhibitions for the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood.
The exhibit will be on display in concurrence with the Stonewall Library & Archive's new exhibit, "Stonewall: The End of the Beginning of Gay Liberation" in celebration of the 40 year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.
Over 400 people attended last year's reception, and thousands viewed the exhibit during the month. There will be significant press coverage of the opening and exhibit as well.
