About Art Explosion
ArtExplosion International LGBT Arts Festival is two weeks of art, film, music, dance, theatre, literature, comedy and cabaret by gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender artists and performers. Over the years, ArtExplosion has grown from a one night event to a two week festival that has featured such talent as Lilly Tomlin, Marga Gomez, The Kinsey Sicks, The Gay Mafia, Greg Walloch, Levi Kries, Eric Himan, Cashetta, Desmond Child, and Lea DeLaria just to name a few.
Presented by the non-profit arts group, ArtsUnited, Art Explosion 2011 celebrated 11 years as one of the largest arts festival of its kind in the country, with many different events happening throughout South Florida over a two week period. The Festival starts with one of the largest juried LGBT art shows in the country. In 2011 we had over 50 artists featuring more than 100 pieces of art. The Festival concluded in 2011 with an evening with Dan Savage, columnist and co-founder of the “It Gets Better” Project.ArtExplosion 2011 is sponsored in part by AutoNation, BankAtlantic, Pride South Florida, Total Wine and the Broward County Board of Commissioners as recommended by Broward Cultural Council.
